It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas
Every year when December arrives there's nothing I find more enjoyable than making some gingerbread. This year I decided to make some gingerbread christmas tree ornaments to hang on the tree!
This super simple recipe comes from Donna Hay and you can then decorate your gingerbread however you like.
You'll need:
125g of unsalted butter, softened
90g of brown sugar
230g of golden syrup
375g of plain flour
1 tsp of bicarb soda
2 tsp of ground ginger
Then onto this:
Beat the butter and brown sugar in an electric mixer until pale and fluffy (approx 10 mins).
Add the golden syrup, flour, bicarb soda and ground ginger and beat until the dough comes together.
Wrap the dough in cling wrap and rest in the fridge for 30 minutes or until firm.
Preheat the oven to 140 degree Celsius. Roll the chilled dough between 2 pieces of baking paper until 5mm thick and cut out shapes as desired - I chose stars, Christmas trees and gingerbread men.
Using the tip of a round piping nozzle, skewer or anything really to put a small hole in each cookie - this will be for threading the string through to turn them into ornaments.
Bake for 18-20 minutes
Allow to cool then threat with string, ribbon or yarn.
If you wish to decorate your ornaments you can buy some pre-made squeeze icing at your local grocery store or click here to make your own icing and colour it to your choosing.
Enjoy creating!
