Top 5 mobile apps for 2016

Are you in the market for some new apps? We got together and came up with our top 5 apps that we love at the moment.

Authentic Weather

Cost: Free

Rating: 4.1

Platform: iOS, Android

This is probably the world's funniest weather app. It gives you the weather straight up, no sugar coating! It is limited in detail so if you’re after a comprehensive weather forecast then this isn’t the app for you, however, if you just want to know the temperature, chance of rain and current outlook with a splash of humour then download it today!

Daily Yoga

Cost: Free (upgrades and additional content available to purchase from $1.99)

Rating: 4.2

Platform: iOS, Android

This is definitely an app for your inner yogi. If you don’t have time to get to your closest yoga class and already have a basic understanding of the movements and poses required for a sun salutation then give this app a go. We find it much better than other yoga apps out there as it has a range of disciplines, options and durations to suit whatever your current yoga needs may be! All you need is a yoga mat (or towel) and a spare 15-30 minutes.

* Note: If you have a dog or cat be prepared for them to join you... they love it! My daily yoga sessions have become a ‘team sport’ NAMESTE!

Etsy

Cost: Free

Rating: 4.3

Platform: iOS, Android

Etsy is a fabulous shopping app where artists, creators and designers sell handmade and vintage items. It is well set out, easy to use and the payment system is highly secure. All of us at Fox & Sage have had Etsy for years and use it on a regular basis. Are you searching for inspiration or something a little creative and meaningful? Etsy is what you’ve been looking for!

Pocket

Cost: Free

Rating: 4.5

Platform: iOS, Android

Pocket is a great little app that allows you to take a website or page you’ve found and save it for later. This is great for when you are on the go browsing the news, when you see a funny story or when you discover that really tasty recipe and don’t want to forget it. It works with news pages, websites, social media and pretty much anything else. I particularly love it for recipes! I was always so frustrated

whenever I accidentally closed my favourite recipes. That’s now in the past!

Pokémon Go

Cost: Free

Rating: 3.9

Platform: iOS, Android

Don’t be a hater.... be a trainer and catch ‘em all! With the massive wave this app has generated we just had to cover it in our top 5! It may not be one of the best apps of all time but it certainly is causing a stir. Love it or hate it, you have to admit it’s made a massive impact on the gaming, app and entertainment markets.

In a nut shell it’s an ‘AR’ (augmented reality) game where you create yourself a character and get out and about (tracked by your GPS location) to find and capture Pokémon. There are hundreds of the little guys out there in the world and some are more common than others. The aim is to essentially ‘catch ‘em all’, train them, evolve them, battle with them and become the ultimate Pokémon trainer.

You'll laugh when you are out and about as it looks like the zombie apocalypse has taken over with everyone so focused on their phone they run into things (yep, I did that... twice). Despite that, it’s great in the sense that you can’t play this game sitting at home on the couch. It’s all about getting out of your house, walking around, interacting with your environment and the people in it. It does have flaws but it’s the first game of many more like it to come.

* Warning: This game is highly addictive. Also, Pikachu is harder to find than you may think.
