Coco Avant Chanel

'Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself' - Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel had started her makeup and beauty line over 80 years ago and is still one of the most prestigious makeup brands there is today. In 1921, Chanel N.5 was released to a very small clientele base in the Paris boutique, by 1924 the well known Chanel N.5 made its public debut. In 1927, the first Rouge Lipstick was create and by 1929, the first skin care product. Today, Chanel makeup and beauty brand is made up with such a diverse range of products that Chanel beauty laboratories have 3 locations around the world.

After recently attending a Chanel makeup VIP evening, these are our some of our top picks.

This recently introduced range of 16 new long wear nail polishes (11 new colours and 5 existing colours), sticks with the 5-free formula that the previous nail polishes formula utilised. The nail polishes do not contain formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, camphor or formaldehyde resin. Chanel indicates that the polish will last 7 days (when also used with the new Le Gel top coat) without chipping.

The Chanel Dans La Lumiere de L’Ete Summer 2016 Collection is the new collection for the European Summer. It is based on the colours and hues of desert colours such Bronze, Browns, Golds, khaki greens with hint of a few pinks thrown in.

One of the most talked about products from the collection is the 536 Emeraude – nail polish. This stunning shimmering emerald colour, is unique and in one simple word 'Stunning'. The way it catches the light and the gel like formula with the quick dry touch makes this a must have from the collection.

And true to its word the nail polish lasted 6.5 days without being chipped. This product is worth the investment, if wanting a long lasting polish.

All Chanel eye shadows have a unique baked formula, that not only can last all day of smudge proof wear, but also last years if taken care of properly. An interesting fact learnt, is that all Chanel makeup colours from the 4 Ombres eye shadow range are inspired by Chanel vibrant tweed jackets colours.

This limited edition eye shadow palate consists of bronze, golden sand, green khaki and brown. The rippled effect in the shadows are to resemble sand dunes . These earthy tones suit all skin tones and ages. Made up of a beautiful soft texture which amazingly glides on and blends so easily onto your eyelids. The Chanel national makeup artist demonstrated, that to get the most effect of the colours, you should start with the darkest shade towards the lash line on your eyelids and then go up towards the crease of the lid with the lighter shades.

Being a limited edition palate this will be snapped up quickly, so if you get the chance definitely add this one to your collection.

This Chanel lip product has been on the market for almost 3 years and this is the first time it has been brought to our attention as it was showcased at the VIP makeup night.

What can be said about this product?? Where has this product been all my life!!!

The colour showcased is called Darling Pink, a perfect soft pink with just the smallest amount of shimmer. It is the perfect colour not only for work, but for after work drinks and the weekend breakfast. This colour is also ideal for a bride to be, who wants a hint of colour on her big day without it being too over the top.

On one side of the duo is a long wear liquid lipstick that within a few seconds of application dries to a matte finish. If a matte finish doesn't appeal to you, on the other side there is a shiny gloss that can be applied on top to turn this look completely around. The beauty of this product is just that, the fact that you can change the lipstick look to suit your mood or event you are attending and being a long wear product the need to reapply is limited.

The product is made up of innovative polymers that help deliver long wear, shine, adherence and even colour tone. With the benefits of

• A gel-oil ensures a smudge-free result. • Micro-pigments help intensify colour and improve adherence

This product lasts! And we mean lasts! After test driving this product by putting the lipstick on at 7am in the morning, it continued to last to 5pm with a touch up of gloss in between!

The colour range for the line is limited in choice compared to the Rouge Allure, Rouge Coco and Coco Shine, however if there is one must have/go to product in your makeup case/hand bag this is it!

This multi-use illuminating primer and base is from the skin care range Le Blanc and another product that I wasn't made aware of until the VIP night. The product illuminates your complexion with a subtle halo of light and perfectly evens out your skin's texture.

After watching the Chanel national makeup artist apply this product to the lovely model, on a bare face, it instantly changed her appearance from dull to full of life like perfecting the skins texture. Upon test driving Le Blanc De Chanel, it instantly calm down the redness and provided an even complexation that didn’t need foundation on top.

According to Chanel this product can be used in the following ways:

• As a foundation base: even out and smooth away imperfections. • As a concealer: conceal redness and dark circles. • As an illuminating base: by adding a drop of Le Blanc De Chanel to your foundation prior to application • As a radiance booster: after applying foundation, enhance your makeup result by using Le Blanc De Chanel to add touches of light to key facial areas, ie., forehead, chin.

The main Le Blanc De Chanel ingredients include:

• Witch hazel extract to reduce the appearance of pores • Silica and mica powders of mineral origin to mattify the complexion • Liquorice extract to even out the skin's texture • A moisturizing complex to restore softness and absolute comfort.

Chanel has an extensive makeup brush collection and one of the newest additions to the collection is the 2 in 1 Foundation Brush Fluid and Powder. This short, round and tapered brush precisely adapts to the skin surface and curves for a perfect application. The brush is ideal for a range of foundations such as fluid or liquid and powder or compact for the nose, cheeks and chin areas of the face. When applying foundations, the brush allows for a more natural application providing a full coverage effect. Not only does this brush apply foundation evenly, it is a perfect brush when blending contour colour just underneath the cheeks.

The Chanel VIP makeup nights are really worth attending! This VIP night was hosted at the Myers, Canberra Centre counter and cost $70 which was redeemable on Chanel products. It really is fascinating to learn new techniques, applications and how a few simple products can really change your appearance.
